In this newly-established role, Witherspoon will serve as honorary chairman of the Avon Foundation, focusing on breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency relief initiatives, and she will be the spokesperson for Avon's beauty brands and sales representatives.
As part of this multiyear agreement, Witherspoon will also be involved in product development initiatives, and appear globally in Avon advertising, web sites and the company's brochures.
In her first trip overseas as Avon's Global Ambassador, Witherspoon visited Japan to bring a message of empowerment and hope to the Asia-Pacific region. She was the guest of honor at a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, where she meet female breast cancer survivors.
Avon's global philanthropy has raised and awarded more than $525 million for breast cancer research and to ensure the best care and treatment for all breast cancer patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Avon is the largest corporate supporter of the fight against breast cancer in the world.
In the Philippines, Avon's yearly fundraising efforts go towards supporting the PGH Breast Care Center, which it also helped establish through funds raised from the Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer campaign launch in 2002.
